It's finally happening. For the first time ever, Haverfordwest Chess Club goes head-to-head with Fishguard Chess Club in a competitive friendly match.

The Showdown

Two clubs. Two teams. Monday evening. Fishguard are bringing both a junior team and a senior team to The Oak, ready to take on our finest across the boards.

Although this is only a friendly, make no mistake, bragging rights are very much on the line and a competetive edge to the victors when the first serious match does take place.

What's It All About?

This is a brilliant opportunity to:

• Experience competitive match play in a relaxed, supportive environment
• Get comfortable playing on the clock — perfect if you haven't used one before
• Represent your club and play as part of a team
• Meet players from Fishguard and build connections across Pembrokeshire chess

Match Details

• Time Control: 45 minutes per player (1.5 hour games)
• Games Start: 7:00 PM sharp
• Teams: Junior and senior sections
• Format: Friendly competitive match (not league-rated)

Competitive? Yes. Friendly? Absolutely. The aim is to have fun, learn, and get a taste of what match play feels like — with just enough rivalry to keep things interesting. Win or lose, this is a landmark evening for the club.
