The club was formed in 2025 after the successful launch of Fishguard Chess Club, with the aim of restarting chess clubs across Pembrokeshire. Through the rest of 2025, Monday night chess met at the Tabernacle church hall in Haverfordwest, before moving to The Oak in January 2026, where it continues today. The club has grown from three members on the first evening to regular turnouts of 20 to 30 players in early 2026, alongside a thriving social scene.
