The 1st Fishguard Rapidplay 2026 is a single-day open rapidplay tournament at The Market Hall, Fishguard.

Tournament Conditions

• Smoking/Vaping: Strictly prohibited within the venue.
• Prize Fund Adjustment: May be reduced for fewer than 40 players.
• Decision Finality: Organiser's and Arbiter's decisions are final.
• Entry Refusal: The Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry without giving a reason.
• Cancellation Policy: Possible due to weather or other reasons; partial refund attempted.
• Mobile Devices: Must be off and unreachable during games. Non-compliance may result in expulsion for that round. Smart watches or anything that could access chess engines are not permitted.
• Data Use: For tournament administration; opt-out option for photo use and/or publishing.
• Liability: Organiser not responsible for personal items or accidents.
• Child Supervision: Responsibility of parent/guardian.
• Data Handling: Players' details held electronically for administration and future events; deletion or update upon request.
• Penalties: Non-compliance with tournament rules may result in penalties including disqualification or expulsion. No refund in event of disqualification.
• Move notation: Not required, but optional.
• Touch move: In effect. First illegal move adds one minute to your opponent's clock; second illegal move results in forfeit.

Competition Format

• Format: Single open section, 7 rounds
• Time Control: 15 minutes + 5 second per move increment
• Rating: This is not a FIDE ranked event.

Ratings

Players will be rated using their:

1. April 2026 FIDE Rapidplay rating
2. April 2026 ECF Rapidplay rating
3. April 2026 WCU Junior rating
4. Live WCU / ECF standard rating

All games played by juniors will be submitted to the WCU Junior Rapidplay Rating Officer.

Unranked players: ratings determined by the Organiser where possible and appropriate.

Prizes

Monetary awards based on entrant numbers. Includes 1st £150, 2nd £75, 3rd £50, rating prizes £30 each.

Venue and Travel

• Parking immediately behind the venue, plus other long stay car parks within a 3 minute walk.
• Tea, coffee and soft drink available for sale at the venue.
• Coffee shops, cafes and pubs within 2 minutes' walk.
• The venue is about two miles from Fishguard and Goodwick Station.
• Transport from the station may be available on the day by pre-arrangement. Contact the organisers for details.
