How to enter
Reserving your board
Your entry entitles one player and their family members to free entrance to Pembroke Castle for the duration of the event — a full day's chess inside the castle walls.
- 1Complete the entry form below with your full name, contact details, club, federation and FIDE registration number if you have one. For juniors, tick the box and give the player's name and date of birth.
- 2Pay your entry fee to secure your place. £20 for adults, £10 for juniors. When you register we'll email you these payment details; your place is reserved provisionally until your payment reaches us. Please pay your £20 entry fee (£10 juniors) by bank transfer to: Haverfordwest Chess Club · Sort 30-54-66 · Acc 64850560 Use your initial and surname as the reference.
The play
Format & ratings
A single open section of seven rounds, played at 15 minutes plus a 5-second increment per move.
How players are rated
Players will be rated using, in order of preference:
Where a player is unranked, a rating will be determined by the Organiser where possible and appropriate. This is not a FIDE-ranked event.

The venue
Pembroke Castle
Castle Terrace, Pembroke SA71 4LA — the birthplace of Henry VII and one of the finest fortresses in Wales. Play takes place within the castle for the full day.
- ParkingThere is parking near the venue, with long-stay car parks a three-minute walk away.
- RefreshmentsTea, coffee and soft drinks are available to buy at the venue, with coffee shops, cafés and pubs all within a two-minute walk.
- By railThe venue is roughly two miles from Pembroke railway station.
- Staying overWe can supply a list of suitable accommodation nearby — just contact the organisers.
The small print
Tournament conditions
Touch move & illegal moves
Touch move is in effect. A first illegal move adds one minute to your opponent's clock; a second illegal move forfeits the game. Move notation is optional, not required.
Devices
Mobile phones must be switched off and unreachable during play — non-compliance may mean expulsion from that round. Smart watches, or anything that could reach a chess engine, are not permitted.
Smoking & vaping
Strictly prohibited anywhere within the venue.
Prize fund
The advertised fund assumes a full field and may be reduced for fewer than 40 players.
Decisions & entry
The Organiser's and Arbiter's decisions are final. The Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry without giving a reason.
Cancellation
The event may be cancelled for weather or other reasons; where this happens a partial refund will be attempted.
Penalties
Breaking the rules may bring penalties up to disqualification or expulsion. No refund is given in the event of disqualification.
Under-18s
Juniors are welcome. Supervision of children remains the responsibility of the parent or guardian throughout the day.
Data & photography
Details are held electronically for tournament administration and future events, and can be updated or deleted on request. An opt-out is available for the use and publishing of photographs.
Liability
The Organiser is not responsible for personal items or for accidents at the venue.
